Tahini Date Bites
If you know me, then you know that dessert is my favorite meal. Unfortunately, my body doesn't react well to any added or processed sugars, so I have to leave it to my creativity to play with foods that will curb my craving and satisfy my sweet tooth at the same time.
With every meal, I like to think about the benefits of the different ingredients that I'm consuming and to also make sure that I'm nourishing my body with the proper nutrients.
Benefits of Dates
Dates contain several vitamins and minerals, in addition to fiber, antioxidants and a low glycemic index. With almost 7g of fiber in a 3.5-ounce serving, the dried fruit is beneficial for preventing constipation and controlling blood sugar levels.
Benefits of Tahini
Tahini is rich in minerals such as phosphorus, lecithin, magnesium, potassium and iron and is a good source of Methionine, which aids in liver detoxification. It’s one of the best sources of calcium and is high in vitamin E + vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5 and B15. Tahini helps to promote healthy cell growth and has 20% complete protein, making it a higher protein source than most nuts! It's easy for your body to digest because of its high alkaline mineral content, which is great for assisting in weight loss.
Benefits of Cacao
Cacao is hormone-balancing and works to boost your serotonin levels (AKA the happy hormone). The superfood also contains compounds that can lower your overall level of cortisol (the stress hormone). Cacao is also extremely rich in antioxidants that naturally protect the body from free radicals, which contribute to aging and disease.
We’ve all heard that blueberries contain many antioxidants, but cacao is 20 times higher in antioxidants- woah- which have been found to reduce insulin resistance and sensitivity. Raw cacao also contains Anandamide, “the bliss molecule” because it is released when we feel good and exhibits both anti-anxiety and antidepressant properties.
I purchased most of these ingredients on Brandless because I trust the quality of their ingredients and they're super affordable!
